Scholarship Opportunities for Military-Connected Students

Dr. Barbara Mujica is a professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, acclaimed author and dedicated advocate for military students at Georgetown University. Dr. Mujica created and funds the Mujica Student Veteran Stipend to provide financial support for student veterans.

The Mujica Graduate Student Veteran Stipend for 2023 is $5,000. The funds will be applied directly to the awardee’s student account to pay for tuition and mandatory fees.

To qualify, applicants must:
• Be a student veteran at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (including the School of Foreign Service, School of Nursing and Health Studies, McCourt School of Public Policy, and the McDonough School of Business).
• Be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester (preferably in an area of importance to national security).
• Have and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher

To apply, applicants must submit:
• Your name and net ID
• A one-page, single-spaced essay explaining your need, qualifications, and your field of study’s relevancy to national national security
• Two letters of recommendation
• Unofficial academic transcripts
• DD214, ERB/ORB, or other documentation to verify your military service

The application period for the Mujica Student Veteran Stipend for the 2024-2025 academic year is open 18 January 2024 to 29 February 2024.

This scholarship was donated in support of the 1789 Scholarship Imperative for the Georgetown scholarship program, which provides aid to undergraduates who demonstrate financial need. 

Preference in the selection of recipients is given to students who are enrolled in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) and who are veterans of the United States Military.

If, in any year, there are no students who meet the immediately preceding preference, then we prefer that the Fund support students who are enrolled in Georgetown College (COL), the McDonough School of Business (MSB), or the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS) and who are veterans of the United States Military. The NMFA Nursing Scholarship is available to military spouses enrolled in the Master of Science Nursing Online program. Scholarships up to $7,500 are available.

The Master in Science in Foreign Service is a University Partner with the non-profit organization SoldierStrong to offer merit-based scholarships to students enrolled in the MSFS program.

Eligible recipients must be a United States active duty service member, reservist, veteran or military spouse enrolled full time in the MSFS program. Learn more about the SoldierStrong Soldier Scholarship.

The AFCEA Educational Foundation is dedicated to providing academic support to U.S. military personnel. Merit-based scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded to persons on active duty in the uniformed military services, to honorably discharged U.S. military veterans (including Reservists and National Guard personnel) of the Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom Operations (years 2004-present) who are currently enrolled and attending classes in an Undergraduate program part time or full time in an eligible STEM major degree program at an accredited four year college or university in the U.S (see eligibility section paragraph 4 for list of acceptable STEM majors).

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Foundation’s United States Military Veterans Scholarship Program (MVSP) is designed to promote the advancement of student veterans in educational geoscience programs at the undergraduate level.

The program aims to promote education and career opportunities to the veterans, aid in the transition of veterans to educational and civilian technical professions and advance and promote geoscience programs in higher education institutions.

Those encouraged to apply for these scholarships include both active U.S. Military service members (including National Guard and Reserve) or veteran members separated from active military service who have been honorably discharged and are entering or reentering a post-secondary undergraduate or program in a field of geoscience full-time or part-time at a four-year accredited college or university.

The American Military Partner Association (AMPA) has partnered with Hilton to offer the AMPA Military Spouse Scholarship, up to 5 military spouses enrolled in institutions of higher learning for scholarships ranging between $1,000 to $2,500 each. The Anchor Scholarship Foundation is awarded to family members (children and spouses) of qualified Surface Navy sailors. Recipients are selected on the basis of four equally weighted criteria: academic performance, character, extracurricular, and financial need. Anchor Scholarships must be applied to tuition and tuition related expenses only.

Dependent children must be pursuing a 4-year degree and dependent spouses may be pursuing an Associates or 4-year degree. Anchor Scholarships cannot be used to fund Graduate degrees. Learn more about the Anchor Scholarship Foundation.

Folded Flag is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization focused on raising and awarding money in the form of educational scholarships to surviving family members of military and government employees who have lost their lives in combat while serving our country.

The scholarship opportunities offered by The Folded Flag Foundation include children’s education scholarships for private school tuition and educational programs and for children in grades K-12 and scholarships for spouses and dependents to attend college or technical/trade school.

The Folded Flag Foundation was formed as a non-profit organization that relies on public donations to help supplement the current death benefits available to the dependents of United States military personnel and other government employees who have lost their lives in defense of our country. Since 2007, the Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission. To provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service-members.

Scholarships are used to subsidize the costs of tuition, school books, fees, on-campus room and board, approved educational tutoring, and other approved educational expenses that a student’s school may deem appropriate. Scholarships are awarded up to $5,000.

Each year, the Jewish War Veterans of the USA (new window) sponsors an essay contest for current service members and veterans who plan to attend or are currently attending an accredited Associates, Bachelor’s, nursing, or graduate-degree program.

The National Association of Veterans’ Program Administrators (NAVPA) is proud to introduce the National Scholarship Program. The Scholarship Program offers either scholarships, one to each of the eight NAVPA regions of the United States.

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) provides college scholarship grants, along with financial aid and educational counseling, to the children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident.

To provide Student Veterans of America (SVA) members the opportunity to apply for a competitive scholarship that will assist them in completing their studies while helping to accomplish their chapter’s mission at the local level.

While many members of SVA are recipients of the New GI Bill at their respective institutions, many of these students lack adequate funds to pay for school. Groups with access to the VA educational funds often find that the financial burden limits the scope and purpose of their SVA activities.

In order to facilitate the activities of individual members on chapter activities, SVA will provide access to scholarships to facilitate SVA chapter activities on and off-campus. These funds will be managed by SVA and distributed to students on school year basis. SVA will use standard application, standard guidelines and existing system of communication to streamline the request process and ensure mass communications.

The VFW’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” will provide service members and veterans with the financial assistance they need to complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt.

United States active duty service members, reservists, and veterans who have separated or is currently holding a military ranking of E-5 or below may be eligible to receive a scholarship up to $5,000. Learn more about the VFW Military Scholarship.

The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship creates opportunities for surviving spouses or children of a deceased veteran of the United States Military to achieve their educational dreams. In Spring 2016, Veterans United Foundation will award up to three (3) scholarships to eligible recipients.
