Events

The Military and Veterans’ Resource Center (MAVRC) hosts several events that are designed to build camaraderie and support a military-inclusive Georgetown. Every year, the MAVRC will host the following events:

The MAVRC will also host ad-hoc events with prospective employers, military and veteran support organizations, as well as professional workshops and guest lecturers on topics of unique interest to our military community. We will typically promote these events via the MAVRC’s campus groups newsletter or Instagram. In the past, such events have included:

  • Employer Chats: An opportunity for students to connect with employers who are looking to hire military-connected students in any degree program. Past partners have included the Washington Nationals MLB Franchise, UBS, and the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
  • Tailgates: A social gathering with food and drinks hosted before various Georgetown sporting events.
  • Veterans’ Retreat: A weekend at Meadowkirk Retreat Center with Campus Ministry and our veterans chaplain to connect with other military-connected students and reflect on shared experiences.
  • Federal Resume Training: A session with a former hiring manager at DHS to review resumes and go over best practices for veterans in the federal government hiring process.
  • Army Reserve Career Advising: A presentation by current Army Reserve Officers to discuss how the Army Reserve functions as opposed to Active Duty, career management, pay differences, and general mission sets.
  • Military Mentorship Panel: An event with AllTru and special operations veterans to discuss leadership and lessons learned with ROTC cadets.

Partners

The MAVRC maintains partnerships with several veteran service organizations to uphold our commitment to the military community and provide enhanced opportunities to our students. The MAVRC is currently a university partner with organizations including the following:

  • Dog Tag Bakery: a five-month entrepreneurship program, Dog Tag Bakery equips veterans, military spouses, and caregivers with the skills necessary to run a successful small business.
  • Warrior-Scholar Project: a veteran service organization that provides college readiness training to enlisted veterans through a bootcamp at Georgetown every summer.
  • The Pat Tillman Foundation: a veteran service organization that invests in the military community through academic merit-based scholarships. Georgetown assists in selecting Tillman Scholars and Georgetown students receive special preference when applying.
