Academic Resource Center

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers consultations for study skills support, custom academic workshops, and drop-in foreign language tutoring. Additionally, the ARC offers disability accommodations for students with physical and mental impairments and can help with testing locations, interpreters, and event planning.

VA Tutorial Assistance

For students needing academic assistance who use VA educational benefits, the VA may help pay for your tutor. Students must get a letter from their professor, loop in their School Certifying Official, and fill out a form. The VA will pay up to $100 per month and up to a lifetime maximum of $1,200.

The Library

Georgetown University Library offers students a wide array of support and research assistance. Students can choose from among the many special collections and research specific libraries. The library also offers research assistance and electronics, to include laptops, available for check-out.

Writing Center

The Writing Center provide synchronous peer tutoring by trained graduate and undergraduate students who can assist you at any point in the writing process from brainstorming to revision. Tutors can offer advice on thesis development, use of evidence, organization, flow, sentence structure, grammar, and more.

SCS Writing Lab

The Georgetown School of Continuing Studies Writing Lab was developed to help SCS students brush up on the writing process and the writing skills necessary to successfully complete assignments. The Writing Lab holds workshops every semester and offers one-on-one consultations.

Law Center Academic Success Coaching & Tutoring

Academic Success offers on-demand workshops, 1-on-1 or small group coaching, and peer tutoring for the unique study skills and needs of law school including the Center for Legal English and the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI).

Math Assistance Center

The Math Assistance Center offers free tutoring services for Georgetown students enrolled in: Mathematics in Society (MATH-1004), Probability and Statistics (MATH-1040), Calculus with Review A (MATH-1310), Calculus with Review B (MATH-1320), Calculus I (MATH-1350), and Calculus II (MATH-1360).

Health and Wellness

Student Health Center

The Student Health Center offers the full spectrum of primary care including on-site labs to Georgetown students with the mission of supporting health while in a rigorous academic environment. They do preventive care including physicals, well women, STI screening and travel visits as well as urgent care for needs such as infections, injuries, and more complex problems with same day appointments. They also manage chronic illnesses, provide prescription refills, ensure compliance with immunization requirements, and provide about 5,000 free flu vaccines yearly.

Counseling and Psychiatric Services

The central mission of Georgetown’s Counseling and Psychiatric Service (CAPS) is to collaborate directly with students and the campus community. CAPS is dedicated to helping students develop greater self-understanding, identify and solve problems, and improve academic performance through the alleviation of psychological, emotional, and cognitive barriers.

Health Education Services

Health Education Services (HES) offers health promotion programming and health communication materials for students. HES seeks to empower students to take responsibility for decisions regarding their health as well as actively tries to increase community identification of students at risk. They offer free, confidential counseling services to survivors of sexual assault and students who are facing drug or alcohol-related crises.

In addition, HES houses the Center for Personal Development which is prepared to meet the unique needs of veterans transitioning to civilian life. The Center’s director, Patrick Kilcarr, Ph.D., is himself a veteran (kilkarrp@georgetown.edu).

Georgetown University offers two recreation facilities through the Yates Memorial Field House on the Main Campus and the Scott K. Ginsburg Sport & Fitness Center at the Law Center to provide comprehensive recreational, fitness, and wellness programming to serve the needs of university students, faculty, and staff.

Student Health Insurance

The Office of Student Health Services require students enrolled in classes more than half time in a degree program are required to have adequate health insurance. A charge for the Premier Plan appears on students’ accounts when their course registration meets the eligibility criteria.
Enrollment in the Premier Plan can be waived if a student has other adequate coverage.

Hoya Eats

Hoya Hospitality operates numerous locations across both the main and capitol campuses for undergraduate and graduate students, including meal plans for both students and staff. They offer food for many dietary restrictions and have a dietician on staff for consultations.

Campus Ministry

Guided by Georgetown’s Catholic and Jesuit tradition, with its abiding commitment to interreligious collaboration, Campus Ministry equips students to lead lives of deeper meaning, belonging and purpose. They also stand ready to serve veterans who study and teach among us, in order to help them integrate their learning, faith, and service. Father David Pratt, specifically, is our veteran chaplain.

Today, Campus Ministry supports Roman Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim and Orthodox Christian chaplaincies and worship services and coordinates student groups in other traditions.

Spiritual Retreats

Campus Ministry offers a myriad of undergraduate and graduate overnight Spiritual Retreats experiences for students by escaping from the Hilltop to go to the Calcagnini Contemplative Center in Bluemont, VA. The programs are accessible of all religious and non-religious backgrounds and focuses on reflection through co-led facilitation from student leaders, faculty, and staff.

They also host a military-connected student retreat around September of each year.

Office of Student Financial Services

The Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) provides counseling services to prospective and current students and their families about options available for financing higher education costs, eligibility for assistance, applying for and obtaining funding, and budgeting expenses and paying bills. For both undergraduate and graduate students, the OSFS determines eligibility for assistance from federal, state and private financial aid programs. OSFS also determines eligibility for Georgetown scholarships to undergraduates and assist in the selection of graduate students who receive university fellowships and scholarships through their academic program.

Office of Revenue and Receivables

The Office of Revenue and Receivables oversees the assessment Board approved of tuition and fees, billing, payment processing, refunds, and IRS Form 1098-T generation for students of Georgetown University in addition to providing cashiering functions and check distribution for the University as a whole.

Office of Third Party Billing

The Office of Third Party Billing is a sub-office of Revenue and Receivables. Third Party Billing is a part of the Georgetown Certification Team by placing memos on student’s accounts for expected military education benefits sent to the school and posts any funding received from the VA or DoD onto student’s accounts. This office also processes Department of Defense tuition assistance (TA), employer tuition assistance, Vocational Rehabilitation book vouchers, and other third party payments that are sent directly to Georgetown.
